Bridging the gap of public school smartphone bans
With 75% of U.S. public schools banning smartphones in the classroom, there is a sizable opportunity to mitigate the gaps in safety and connection exposed by this shift. Loop addresses the main issue for parents when it comes to smartphones—communication—helping more schools enable phone-free learning environments.
Challenge
Design a wearable device that public schools can provide to students in place of confiscated smartphones, which allows for essential communication.
What I Did
Devised product concept and pitch deck.

Insight
We need to help the parents feel safe.
How it works
Loop is designed to be maintained, distributed, and controlled by the administering educational institution. Students receive their watches upon entering each day, and hand them in before dismissal.
Market Potential
Out of 50 million K-12 public school students in the US, 15 million are in smartphone-ban schools.
Next Steps
Loop is part of a larger body of ongoing work addressing technoference—that is, how technological overreach interrupts our interpersonal world—and the societal frameworks that demand it.
